Importing Your Data from a file

There are two methods of entering data into AutoBracket. You may enter your data directly in AutoBracket or you may collect your data outside of AutoBracket in some other program of your choosing and then import the data into AutoBracket using the built in flexible file importer. In the second case, a program like a spreadsheet or word processor could be used. AutoBracket has the ability to import data that is in the common CSV (Comma Separated Value) format. With this in mind, all entry data should be collected in a spreadsheet application or word processor that supports saving the data in a CSV format. (Almost all do)

If you choose to collect your data in a separate program, you should know that AutoBracket expects certain data for each entrant.

AutoBracket expects:

First Name, Last Name, Club, Age or Date of Birth, and Grade. THESE ITEMS ARE MANDITORY.

Optional items include:

Weight, Years of experience, Wins, and Losses.

If any of these optional items are not available, you can enter the same values for each of the entrants. Example: If Years of Experience was not collected, you could enter 1 year for all entrants.

The order of the items is not important.

If a Date of Birth is entered AutoBracket will compute exact age.

Step 1. While on the Groups View and the groups unlocked, Click the Load From File button as shown below.

Step 2. Use the buttons located at the top of the Select Data File dialog box to browse to your data file. Select your data file by clicking on it once, and click the Open button as shown in the example below.

Step 3. Review your data on the Load Data File Window. Each column in your data should be represented as shown in the partial view below.

Step 4. Double click on the column headings that read Skip It and select the appropriate column headings from the list of available headings as shown below.

Hint: Getting the column headings correct the first time is easy if you include the column headings as the first line in your data file. After the Headings are set, you can double click on the first row. AutoBracket will ask you if you want to skip the first row. Click the Yes button as shown below.

Step 5. After the headings are all set, click the Save button in the lower right hand corner of the Load Data File Window.

Step 6. IMPORTANT: Make sure you review the imported data to ensure that there was no mistake when selecting the column headings. If this process needs to be repeated, highlight the first entrant by clicking on it once. Then scroll to the bottom of the list, hold down the Shift key on your keyboard and click on the last entrant in the list. This will highlight all of the entrants as shown below. Click the Delete button on the main AutoBracket dialog as shown below. Then START THIS PROCESS OVER.
